OUR IMPACT

Studio Upstairs offers longer-term support. Enduring conditions of distress are usually the result of a complex set of factors.

We believe that short-term approaches lead to cycles of relapse and present a much higher cost to individuals, families, and to society as a whole.

Many people from BAME communities have experienced long-term discrimination and this in turn can lead to poor mental health and life chances.

Studio Upstairs works hard to listen and understand the barriers that people from black and ethnic minority backgrounds experience, and we are active supporters and partners in the Black Lives Matter movement.

In the video below Kathleen talks about the positive impact of Studio Upstairs on her mental health and the artist RSJ talks about his experience of Studio Upstairs.

Freedom to Express Poem by Hayley Hellings

Shared emotions so well embraced,
Surrounded by friendship and love,
We accept ourselves and others,
Feeling safe in this space,
As our expression is freely accepted,
In love the freedom helps us learn
To live,
Surrounded by people precious and
Unique,
We can then be as you, be as me,
Be safe and be free.
