Art Group Facilitator, Dalston (Voluntary)


Studio Upstairs is looking for an art group leader. This 12 week opportunity offers the chance to join an established charity, gaining experience and insight into the running of an art group.

The successful applicant would be:

  • A practicing artist willing to share their skills 
  • Comfortable in leading groups
  • Available for the duration of the group between April - June
  • Able to support people with mild mental health or emotional issues (ideally a therapeutic professional)

The role will involve facilitating an art group of 5 - 12 people in a non-structured setting. Newly qualified art therapists are welcome to apply.


About the Group:

This group is for those interested in arts for wellbeing, to develop their artistic practice and to connect with others with similar interests. It is inclusive, open to all levels of skills and a place to share thoughts, ideas and works in a non-judgemental environment. 

The group will be led by two artists at Studio Upstairs Dalston on Friday 9.30am to 12.30pm from April 3rd for 12 weeks.

It will offer an opportunity for the participants to:

  • Make artwork in a shared, safe space
  • Receive encouragement and support in setting and achieving goals
  • Discuss contacts, ideas and networks for exhibitions, talks, workshops, etc
  • Weekly access to a fully equipped art studio, for a guaranteed 12 week period
  • Materials and refreshments (tea, coffee etc) are provided.

Office Volunteer - Bristol

Main duties are to support the smooth running of the office. Tasks would include:

● Answering the phone, booking in appointments and visits
● Filing and updating databases
● Maintaining office equipment and art materials stock
● Marketing and updating social media to promote the studio, artwork sales & events
● Supporting team in organising events / exhibitions and promoting the charity

This is a great opportunity to work in a vibrant and creative atmosphere, whilst gaining further administrative skills and contributing to an established project, which is evolving and expanding.

Key Skills Required

  • Organised and accurate
  • Good general administrative skills
  • Able to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel / Google equivalents
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal
  • An interest in the arts and mental well-being

Six month’s minimum commitment expected

Studio Upstairs Trustee

Studio Upstairs is seeking to appoint new Trustees/Directors to our board. This is an unpaid voluntary role.

Studio Upstairs exists to transform lives through creative communities. We have branches in Bristol, Dalston and Croydon. In addition to the full board meetings, there may be occasional subcommittee meetings.

We are keen to hear from well-networked candidates with skills and experience in the areas of fundraising or commissioning of health services.

The Board Meetings are held four to six times a year in London.

Studio Upstairs is looking for Art Therapists who are interested to join our lists for occasional cover in London or Bristol.

The post holder will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check and provide their own professional indemnity insurance.

Marketing and Outreach Volunteers

Studio Upstairs is currently looking for Marketing and Outreach volunteers to assist in the promotion of our income generating activities and strengthen our image and relationships with local people, businesses, organisations, current and potential members. The role is flexible and we are interested in hearing from candidates who can work on-site or from home.

Key Skills Required

  • Confident with strong interpersonal skills
  • Able to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel and Photoshop and/or InDesign
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • An interest in the arts and mental well-being
  • Knowledge of the local area and its organisations and institutions would be an advantage

Workshop Volunteers/ Artists, London Studio

We are now accepting proposals for short-term workshops from artists. Please email your workshop proposal and CV to be considered for a session or taster session. We are looking for artists and art students who would be willing to volunteer to run art projects of their own design on various uses of art materials and techniques for up to four to six weeks at a time. In previous projects, we have done puppetry, graphic design, portrait painting, oil paint techniques.
