This two-day course will give an introduction and experiential understanding of a range of mindfulness meditation practices and an overview of mindfulness-based approaches to healthcare. It will look at the relationship between mindfulness based practises and art therapy and how the two practices can support and complement each other and will include mindfulness based art making exercises.
Both days will have experiential meditation and art making components and a discussion of current issues in relation to practice and research.
This course would be useful for arts therapists and other health care professionals who are interested in learning about mindfulness meditation, its applications in health care settings and how it can be used with art therapy practices. The course would also be appropriate for art therapists who wish to introduce mindfulness approaches into their art therapy practice and for professionals who want to find out how art therapy can complement mindfulness based approaches to healthcare, as well as those seeking an introduction to mindfulness based approaches to health and wellbeing.
The course will be run by Lynne Francis an HPC registered Art Therapist and also a practicing Buddhist with thirty years’ experience of mindfulness meditation practices. Lynne is also a qualified general nurse and mental health nurse, and a qualified teacher. She has extensive experience of working with a wide range of individuals and groups in the health and educations sectors.
