Studio Manager (Qualified Art Therapist), Studio Upstairs (South London)

Studio Upstairs needs an exceptional, self-motivated individual to join the South London team and help the organisation develop further.   

The successful applicant will be an experienced, qualified art therapist and a practicing artist. They will have ‘a can do’ attitude, capable of handling a multitude of tasks and be able to stay calm under pressure.

This role will carry the primary responsibility for the creative process within the Visual Art Studio and for leading a team of volunteers/ trainees. The main purpose of the role is to facilitate a safe environment, which enables Studio Members to effect change and growth on a personal level through therapeutic relationships and through the use of art materials and processes.

Other responsibilities include: organising regular reviews of studio artists artwork; being open to the emotional needs of the membership; to provide individual support where necessary; to help organise exhibitions, events and to facilitate monthly forums in the studio.

This is a freelance contract for £4000 per annum, one day per week, Tuesday or Thursday (10 am - 5pm). 

Clinical supervision will be provided. The post holder will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check.

Office Volunteer

Main duties are to support the work of the office team. Tasks would include:

● Answering the phone, booking in appointments and visits
● Filing and updating databases
● Maintaining office equipment and art materials stock
● Marketing and updating social media to promote the studio, artwork sales & events
● Supporting team in organising events / exhibitions and promoting the charity

This is a great opportunity to work in a vibrant and creative atmosphere, whilst gaining further administrative skills and contributing to an established project, which is evolving and expanding.

Key Skills Required

  • Organised and accurate
  • Good general administrative skills
  • Able to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel / Google equivalents
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal
  • An interest in the arts and mental well-being

Six month’s minimum commitment expected

Models for Art Classes Wanted, South London

Studio Upstairs is looking for models of all shapes and sizes (18+), both male and female to join our Model Directory. If you are interested, are accustomed to a range of poses and positions, and would like to build your experience within our creative studios, please send us your details including a snapshot and we will be in touch.

Person specification

∙ A calm and professional demeanor

∙ Able to hold a standing or sitting pose for at least 30 minutes, (sittings range from 1 to 2 hours, with breaks)

Comfortable modeling in front of groups ranging from 10-20 people max. Nude modeling is not an essential requirement, this could be for head portraits as well in everyday clothes.

The rate of pay for models is £10 to £15 per hour depending on experience and requirements. Work engagement is a subject to written agreement with the arrangements.

The Studio Space at 2-4 Park Street, CR0 1YE is a welcoming environment where people can work in a range of artistic media, alongside others in a safe, therapeutic setting.

Marketing and Outreach Volunteers

Studio Upstairs is currently looking for Marketing and Outreach volunteers to assist in the promotion of our income generating activities and strengthen our image and relationships with local people, businesses, organisations, current and potential members. The role is flexible and we are interested in hearing from candidates who can work on-site or from home.

Key Skills Required

  • Confident with strong interpersonal skills
  • Able to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel and Photoshop and/or InDesign
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • An interest in the arts and mental well-being
  • Knowledge of the local area and its organisations and institutions would be an advantage

Workshop Volunteers/ Artists, London Studio

We are now accepting proposals for short-term workshops from artists. Please email your workshop proposal and CV to be considered for a session or taster session. We are looking for artists and art students who would be willing to volunteer to run art projects of their own design on various uses of art materials and techniques for up to four to six weeks at a time. In previous projects, we have done puppetry, graphic design, portrait painting, oil paint techniques.
