In addition to the visual arts we also run a performance workshop for people who are interested in exploring performance and theatre. No previous experience is needed but rather a keenness in learning the craft of acting and performance and a commitment to attend regularly

The programme takes the form of physical and vocal warm-up, games, movement exploration, character building, improvisation, and text work. In addition there are visits to the theatre and we are also working towards linking in with other groups and theatre companies to be able to have more varied experiences and to further develop techniques e.g mime, drumming, physical theatre etc.

The group meet every Tuesday in the Vortex Jazz Club which is based one floor below the Studio. It is a contemporary, light & airy space overlooking Gillett Square. The Vortex and Studio Upstairs are fellow associates and are housed together in the Dalston Culture House.

There are regular opportunities to present short performances that bring together drama, dance and the visual arts.

Members of the performance group are part of the overall life of Studio Upstairs and meet regularly with everyone for monthly studio forums; and people are welcome to be involved in all the art-forms.

The performance programme takes place every Tuesday from 11.15am to 4.15pm and is run by Dan Skili and Haydn Forde who are both performers, directors, drama and movement therapists.
